How can policy, research, industry, projects and practitioners turn knowledge into coordinated action for healthier soils, resilient water systems and a climate-ready future?
Join us online on 25 September 2026 | 10:00–12:00 CET for a participatory discussion on strengthening cooperation across policy, research and practice.
In the face of accelerating climate change, the interconnected crises of water scarcity, soil degradation, and food security demand more than just isolated solutions. They require a unified, strategic approach. The challenge is no longer just about generating new knowledge, but about transforming that knowledge into coordinated, on-the-ground action.
To tackle this complex challenge, we are bringing together leading experts, policymakers, researchers, and project stakeholders for a vital online event: "From Knowledge to Action: Cultivating Healthier Soils and a Climate-Ready Future." This participatory session is designed to break down silos and forge stronger connections between policy and practice.
A Nexus Approach: Water, Soil, and Climate
At the heart of our discussion is the Water–Soil–Climate Nexus. This framework recognises that these three elements are not separate issues but a single, interconnected system. Effective freshwater policies and climate action must therefore be built on a foundation of healthy soils that retain water and resilient landscapes that can withstand extreme weather events.
Our conversation will explore the critical need for timely policy action and delve into the practical lessons emerging from EU-funded projects. We will examine the pressing innovation needs required to tackle water scarcity and discuss how European Partnerships can mobilise the resources necessary to turn these innovations into reality.
Key Themes and Guiding Principles
The session will be structured around several forward-looking themes and guiding principles that are essential for building a water-sensitive future:
-
"Regenerate and Hydrate" in the CAP: We will explore how these two guiding principles can be integrated into the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) to promote water-sensitive agricultural approaches that benefit both farmers and the environment.
-
The Power of Green Water Cycles: A major focus will be on the role of green water cycles—the water stored in soil and vegetation—in improving water retention across entire landscapes. By enhancing these natural cycles, we can build natural buffers against both floods and droughts.
-
BIOEAST’s Macro-Regional Potential: The discussion will highlight BIOEAST's unique potential to play a macro-regional role in strengthening the water cycle and improving water retention, showcasing how regional cooperation can lead to tangible results.
-
From Innovation to Implementation: We will bridge the gap between research and reality, identifying the pathways and opportunities for stronger connections between policy frameworks and on-the-ground practices.
